“Have you realized that most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself?-- D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
What are your thoughts when you first wake up in the morning? These thoughts are the ones that we find ourselves listening to, often unconsciously. These thoughts can set the tone for our days... or if listened to long enough, the tones for our lifetimes.
If you wake up listening to the voice that says "I don't have enough time to do__________ today." Then you will likely not have enough time to do what the thing is. If you wake up listening to the voice that is still holding on to the pains and unforgiveness of yesterday "I can't believe that she/he/they hurt me by __________." then you could spend your day (or lifetime) in pain and unforgiveness. If you wake up listening to the voice that says you are unworthy... then guess what? You will feel unworthy.
An alternative to listening to ourselves is TALKING to ourselves. While some might consider talking to ourselves a form of insanity--it is in fact, the opposite-especially if we are talking truths with a capital "T."
Here are a few biblically based TRUTHS for your consideration.
"I am fearfully and wonderfully MADE" (Psalm 139:14)
"I am ADOPTED by God" (Romans 8:15)
"I am more than a CONQUEROR." (Romans 8:37)
"I am CHOSEN." (1 Peter 2:9)
"I am a FRIEND of Jesus."(John 15:15)
"I am FORGIVEN." (Ephesians 1:7)
"I am RIGHT in God's eyes." (Romans 5:1)
"I am LOVED" (Colossians 3:12)
"I can do ANYTHING with the STRENGTH of Christ." (Philippians 4:13)
"I am God's MASTERPIECE" (Ephesians 2:10).
My hope is that as you TALK to yourself with integrity and truth...and then, it is worth listening too!!
