Liberating Intimacy Today...Living Intimately NOW!

Pastor, Blogger, and Intimacy Advocate
I am Rev. Dr. Carmin A. Frederick-James, the Associate Pastor of Online Engagement and Community Outreach at Covenant United Church of Christ in South Holland, Illinois, a church that connects the disconnected to Christ and equips the connected to be more like Christ.
This is my personal blog focused on living intimately with God, self, and others. My philosophy is that intimacy must be liberated and requires intentionality to do so.
I write from the perspective of an African American woman whose intimacy was enslaved after experiencing sexual assault in my teen years. I also write with the understanding that intimacy is far more than sexual and is instead a cry to be seen into.
My goal is to create insightful, relevant content that you can practice in all of your relationships--both personal and professional. I typically post as the Spirit leads, with the intention of growing to 2-3 times a week. To make sure you don't miss any of my newest posts, make sure to subscribe by email or becoming a member.
My Biography
I obtained my Doctor of Ministry in May of 2019 from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana. My Doctor of Ministry Project was entitled “IN TO ME SEE: A sermonic model for uncovering intimacy in today’s teens.
At Covenant United Church of Christ, through online engagement and community outreach, I desire to live out and minister from a ‘re-membered’ intimacy such that those I am called to serve might do the same. A ‘re-membered’ intimacy is a sense of connection and relationship with God, self, and others that heals from past historical and personal wounds to move forward in the intimacy that God desires.
In my prior ministry work at both Covenant United Church of Christ (2017-2020) and Trinity United Church of Christ (2011-2017), in Chicago, Illinois my work focused on developing intimacy with youth and their families.
I believe that my work on intimacy began long before I could name it. As a practicing speech pathologist from 1998 until 2013, I used the tools that I had to help each client find and use their 'inner voice.' Inner Voice was the name of a Speech Pathology practice that I owned from 2001 until 2006.
I hold a Master of Divinity from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology-Virginia Union University, a Master of Health Sciences in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Governors State University, a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Science, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
I am married to Mr. Durell James and the mother of a blending family including four children, three grandchildren, and two dogs, Grayson and Phoebe (RIH). My hobbies include reading, writing, gardening, completing puzzles and cooking.
My favorite scripture is Isaiah 43:16-20 (The Message), “Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.” Her favorite prayer is “The Peace Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi.”
